With home prices at all-time highs throughout Orange County, we’ve seen a lot of people “cash out” and take their equity elsewhere, but for those who are planning on staying in their Mission Viejo homes, now is a great time to consider a home remodel.
A home remodel, when done right, can be a great investment. If your home is outdated or in need of some upgrades, getting them done can be money well spent. Not only will you get to enjoy the improvements for as long as you own your home, but when you go to sell your home in the future, it will be much more attractive to buyers. We won’t always be in a seller’s market, where every home gets multiple over-asking offers. There will come a time when your home will have to compete with others in Mission Viejo, and when that day comes, you’ll want yours to stand out.
Now, not just any home remodel will do. If you’re viewing your home remodel as an investment, you’ll want to make smart choices. This is something we can help you with when you work with Scott McKee Construction. We have decades of experience in Mission Viejo home remodels and know what elements can add value to a home. When you bring us in early in the process, we can help you with floorplan design, materials selection, and even help you choose paint colors that will improve your home’s value and appeal.
Whole-Home Remodels vs. Remodeling One Room at a Time
We realize that not everyone has the budget to take on a whole-home remodel, but if you do, we highly recommend doing it, rather than remodeling your home in a piecemeal style. Doing a whole-home remodel with the same general contractor who is in on your vision from the beginning will help to create a more cohesive look throughout your home. Your house will feel more put together when there’s an intentional design that flows from room to room.
Having a well-designed, cohesive look is a great way to add value to your home. To accomplish this, you could do things like have the same flooring and baseboards run throughout your house, use a consistent color theme, and/or install coordinating cabinets and countertops in various rooms.
Of course, you could achieve a consistent look throughout your home by remodeling one room at a time, but you run the risk of materials being discontinued and having to settle for something that’s not quite what you wanted. You also extend the amount of time your home is under construction.
With a whole-home remodel, it’s also a great time to do things like upgrade your electrical, plumbing, AC units, roof, and/or windows and doors to make your house more efficient and comfortable. Some of the walls will likely already be open, and doing these types of upgrades at the same time makes sense. While not the most “exciting” types of upgrades, making these improvements typically pays off in the long run.
Adding Square Footage to Your Mission Viejo Home
If you’ve been wanting to increase the size of your Mission Viejo home, doing it at the same time as a home remodel is recommended as well, for all the same reasons listed above.
However, after consulting with Scott McKee Construction, some owners find that it’s not necessary to add square footage. Sometimes, by simply reconfiguring the current space in your house, we can make your home more efficient for your needs. That’s what we did with this home remodel in Mission Viejo. We were able to drastically transform the interior space, giving the homeowner everything she wanted, without changing the home’s footprint at all.
