Newport Beach
Dramatic Interior and Exterior Remodel of Newport Beach Home
This project is one of the most dramatic home renovations that we’ve done. If you saw the “before” and “after” photos without any context, you would probably never guess the photos were of the same house! The home’s front elevation has been completely transformed, and many areas of the interior were renovated as well.
The Johnsons are return clients. We worked with them on a previous home remodel, and they contacted us again to be the general contractor on their new house in Newport Beach. Their requests for the home’s interior were a larger and grander entryway and foyer, an updated staircase, and a master bedroom and bathroom expansion that would include a large walk-in closet and a small library. For the exterior, they initially requested a home in a traditional, Cape Cod style, with wood siding. However, after we had completed construction documents and started construction on the home, the homeowners changed their mind about the style of the home, and decided they wanted a Tuscan-style home. The homeowners knew this would be a major shift in the design and asked if we could make the change, even though the plans for a Cape Cod-style home were already in motion.
We were happy to change gears and come up with a new design for a Tuscan-style home. We were able to do so with no major changes to the construction documents, which meant we could use the existing plans, without having to redesign or resubmit them to the city for approvals. By doing so, we were able to save the homeowners a good amount of money and time. This was a very unusual situation. We don’t normally recommend that homeowners dramatically change their minds on the overall design once we’re that far into the process. Typically, a situation like this would incur some hefty redesign fees and a lengthened timeline, but in this case, it worked out well for all involved.
In the interior, we included many Tuscan-inspired features to tie everything together, such as Travertine tile, oil-rubbed bronze fixtures, rich, dark cabinetry throughout the home, and architectural details, such as arches and columns.
This home came out amazing and is now the star of their Newport Beach neighborhood! We are very proud of the fact that we were able to adapt the design for the Johnsons and, in the end, deliver a finished project that they are most proud of and can enjoy for many years to come.
